The SHORTFIN MAKO Shark : One of the shark species to be investigated
The Shortfin Mako shark (Isurus oxyrinchus) was seen swimming offshore the Landes and Basque coasts, even a known washed up mako was identified on a beach located northward Bayonne (Pyrénées Atlantiques - fr-64), in the Landes area.
The shortfin mako probably is the quickest shark : measured at the speed of 70 km/h (43 mph), some said the mako can swim up to 110 km/h (68 mph).
His or her diet ideally matchs the fishes and squids we can find in the Bay of Biscay, South-East.
Among other sharks, the shortfin mako will be investigated hence tagged.
